My Personal Media Consumption

Although I am not proud to admit it, I rely heavily on social media for my own individual news and media consumption. I use outlets such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to follow news. I say that I'm not proud of this because I often find the news shared on these sites to not only be unreliable, but often accompanied by the opinions of individuals that I follow on each site. While I fully support individualized thinking, there are some people who's opinions I prefer not to see on a daily basis.

There are pros to using these applications to gain news. I find that I always know about big events happening in not only my community, but in the world. Media is easily accessible and people are always sharing and posting the latest news.

When I see a particular subject on social media that I want to know more about, I often head to CNN.com, The Guardian, Washington Post, or New York Times. I find these news outlets to not only be reliable, but the stories are also more elloquent. When I'm asked to read up on the latest news by my professors, such as Dr. Jenkins in Media Writing, or Dr. Robinson in Multimedia Reporting, I go to these websites instead of relying soley on social media to find content to share in class.
